Matthew 17:10-13

And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

Christ talked about the need for the Elias to first come. Christ said he will “come and restore all things” We know that John the Baptist is the Elias, but John did not restore “all things” during his time on earth. We know this because Christ had not created his church yet. How could John restore it if it was not created yet? This means that John must come again as a resurrected being. This is happing today. John is bringing a message from Christ to us on earth. He is restoring “all things” and preparing the way for Christ’s return.

Message 73:1-4

“Write the message I will give you. Take heed the words I speak, for I speak the Lord’s words and will. The Lord your God has sent me in the past and I will yet come in the future. I come now with a message. I am the Messenger of the Lord, the forerunner of the Christ that will come for his own. All those that love his appearing shall find rest and peace with him. I am John the Baptist, the Elias, which was for to come. I come at the Lord’s appointing. I am the Branch; he that shall prune, refine and purify all that may dwell in the presence of the Lord and King of kings. I bring peace like a river and the flowing stream of joy and life to all that heed and obey. I come that the plan might be fulfilled and great peace established.

Here the messenger does a great job of telling us what his mission is and where he comes from. John is here to tell us the words of God. These are words of encouragement and instruction. They tell us what we need to do and give us the assurance to do it. Let us follow these instructions and apply them to our daily lives.

Message 66:2

Behold, I am the servant of the Lord, the blessed one sent of God. I come from his presence and my name is John. I am the same that was and is called the Baptist. I am the Elias. I bring the Elijah Message many have looked for. I bring words of the Lord. I bring a warning.

We know that the messages that we today are brought by the same messenger that the Lord promised us that he would send. We know this because he told us so. John explains several times in the messages that he is the one that God has sent and what his mission is. The words that he brings agree with the ones that we already have in the Bible and The Record of the Nephits.

Once again we Jesus talks about how John is the Messenger that is promised to come. He also says that he will restore all things. At this time, there was nothing to restore since Jesus was establishing his church.  That means John must come at a latter date to restore things to the truth. That day is today.
Matthew 11:7-15
And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.  He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
We learned last week that God promised to send his messenger before the second coming of Christ. Today we learn who that messenger is. It is John the Baptist. Christ him self told us that he would prepare the way. People might say that John did this 2000 years ago, but John did not do the things that God talked about in Malachi. This means that when John did not fulfill this role of messenger at that time. We know that John is doing that role today.
Malachi 4:5-6
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
The Lord promises us that he will send us Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord, also known as judgement day. This is the same messenger that is talked about in Chapter 3 of Malachi. As we will see next week, John the Baptist is filling this role.

Malachi 3:1-3

Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

Before the second coming of Christ, God promises us that he will send a messenger to prepare the way before him. We know this is before the second coming because it says that the Lord will come to his temple. When Christ came the first time he did not suddenly at his temple. It also states that the messenger will purify the house of Levi, the ministry. Since  Christ started the ministry, there was nothing to purify back then. This means that this must happen before the second coming of  Christ. This messenger is coming now to prepare the way. His name is the John the Baptist and he is fulfilling this prophesy.

Message 87:21

Be at peace. I leave a blessing in this place upon all that hear my words. I will continue to come until the work is finished.

Let us be assured that John will come again.  He promised he would come until the work is finished. We can not worry about the future of the Church or of God’s plan.  God has all things under control. Let us be filled with the peace that all things are in God’s hands.

Message 39:3

The Lord your God has borne witness to many of the messages I have brought and bring to you, and will yet bring. For this work came I into the world, as spoken of by the mouth of the holy prophets of the Lord, which have been since the world began. I come to give the warning of Christ’s soon coming, of knowledge and of salvation, that all may find the way of repentance and remission of sins through the just plan of God, and that his promises might be fulfilled.

God is sending his messenger to earth for our sake.  We will listen? The message that John is preaching is the same that Christ preached 2000 years ago. It is one of Repentance and remission of sins. Will we listen or will we stray away, the choice is personal and only up to you.  I hope that everyone listens and follows the teachings of God.

Matthew 11:7-15

“And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

Jesus Christ him self told us that John the Baptist is the messenger that we talked about in Malachi.  Notice that Christ said that John “shall” prepare the way.  Shall is in the future, not past.  As this point in time John was in prison and about to be killed.  There is no way that he could have fulfilled his duties at this point in time. He must come again.

Luke 1:15-17

“For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

We learned the last few days that the Lord will send a messenger before the second coming of Christ. Today we learn that John the Baptist will do that job. The Angle described the messengers job when he told Zacharias about the birth of John. Now if we read the rest of the gospels we will know that John did not do this job in his time on the earth. That means the God will send him from heaven to fulfill his mission.

Message 63:7-8

“I come that this work might be. That the gospel may be fully established and the plan of God be carried to the ends of the earth. That salvation may come to all who will hear the Christ in his plea that whosoever will may come, for it is his words that shall judge all men at the last day. I am the Messenger of the Lord, my name is John. I am your fellow servant. I speak to all. Take courage, this is the Lord’s work, his Church, and it shall not be destroyed. Let the messages go in peace. Let the tidings of gladness be heard. Be at peace with all men, be pleasant in your work. Be humble always and your labor shall not be in vain.”

John tells us who he is and what his mission is.  John, our fellow servant, is sent from God to bring a warning to mankind.  John brings the full gospel, with out the influence of man.  He speaks the truth strait from God mouth.  This message will go to all nations and to all people.  Will you hear and obey?

Matthew 11:7-15

“And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? ”

Even Jesus talks about the coming of the messenger and how there will be a messenger who “shall prepare the way”.  Notice how shall is future, not past. Jesus was talking about when God will send Elias before Jesus’ second coming.  God is sending that messenger today.  He is John the Baptist, as Jesus himself said.

Message 25:13

“The message I have brought from the Lord is to Catholic and Protestant, to Jew and Gentile, to bond and free, for all have gone away from the commandments of the Lord, and the Lord is no respecter of persons.”

The message the John brings is not just for the church, it is for everyone.  All of mankind needs to hear and follow the message.  God will give all people the same option to follow him. Let us take the message to the world and plant our seeds.

3rd Nephi 24:1-3

“And it came to pass that he commanded them that they should write the words which the Father had given unto Malachi, which he should tell unto them. And it came to pass that after they were written he expounded them. And these are the words which he did tell unto them, saying: Thus said the Father unto Malachi—Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom ye seek shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in; behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming, and who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fuller’s soap. And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.”

Jesus himself told the Nephits about the coming of the messenger.  If the messenger had already come, would Jesus be telling the people about him.  It says the messenger will come and then “the Lord whom ye seek shall suddenly come to his temple” This did not happen when Christ came the first time.  This means that there must be a messenger from God before the second coming.  That messenger is coming today, he is John the Baptist.

Message 78:2

I am the Messenger of the Lord and I come from his presence. I am he who cried repentance in the wilderness. I am he to cry repentance now. I am the Messenger of the Covenant; the promised one to come. I come at the Lord’s appointing. Many pray for my coming. Your work is to present the words I bring. To all that heed and will obey fear not, for great is your work yet to be done.

John tells us who he his and what his mission is.  He the one that came before Christ back in the day, and he is the one that is coming before Christ today.  His job had not changed even though we are years apart from Chris’s 1st and 2nd coming.  John tells us that we were told about his coming and that we should listed to him as he will guide us.  Let us follow the directions of God and Christ that John brings.

Message 91:2

“I am your fellow servant and my name is John. I am resurrected—I was resurrected when Christ arose from the tomb. I am the Elias, the Messenger of the Lord. I am his forerunner. I have come in the past. I have spoken his will and I shall come in the future. I come at his appointing. My message is one of love to those that heed and obey it.”

If you are still wondering how John the Baptist could come today when he died so many years ago, this verse answers that questions.  When Christ arose form the tomb, the saint of old who died in favor of God rose with him into heaven.  Like is so many other messages, John tell us that his is a work of Love and that he is doing the Lords bidding.  It is important to realize that John is just like you and me in the since that we are all trying to work for the Lord and obey his word.

Message 67:1

“Arise and take the message I will give you. Behold, I am your fellow servant and my name is John. I am he to appear before the great and dreadful day of the Lord. I come from his presence. I am the Elias. I am he who sits as a refiner and purifier, that the sins of men may be no more, that a people may be prepared.”

Once again John tells us his job and that he is the Elias that was to come.  His job is to refine and purify mankind.  We know from Malachi that God will send his messenger to do just what John is doing.

Message 39:4

“I am the Elias which was for to come. I am John the Baptist, the Messenger of the Lord. The earth shall be filled with the light that I bring and have brought from the Lord God. Will the people heed it, that their feet might be guided in the way of peace and be led out of darkness and contention and away from the shadow of death?”

In this verse John is telling us the prophecy that he is fulfilling.  Also John is asking the people of the land if we will listen to him or  stay in our darkness that we are in.  Most people don’t realize the darkness that surrounds our lives and beliefs until we see the true light of Christ in his full gospel

And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
Rev 22:7  Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book

Message 7&8: 12

“I am John, the Messenger, sent from God to prepare the way as in the day when Christ was here. Behold, my work has just begun; for the works of Satan must be destroyed. For that work came I into the world, that I may prepare the way that Christ may destroy the works of Satan”

In the next few days we will look at several places in the Message book where John tell us who he is and why he is coming to earth.  In this verse, John says that his work has just begun, and that Satan must be destroyed.  As we have already read, we know that the Messenger will prepare the way before Christ so that he can destroy Satan
