3rd Nephi 27:23-27

Write the things which ye have seen and heard, save it be those which are forbidden. Write the works of this people, which shall be, even as hath been written, of that which hath been. For behold, out of the books which have been written, and which shall be written, shall this people be judged, for by them shall their works be known unto men. And behold, all things are written by the Father; therefore out of the books which shall be written shall the world be judged. And know ye that ye shall be judges of this people, according to the judgment which I shall give unto you, which shall be just. Therefore, what manner of men had ye ought to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am.

God is always watching what we do. We will be judged for our actions and inactions. We will not be judged against other people, or pass judgment because of who we are or how much stuff we have. Since members of the ministry have such a huge responsibility, they should strive that much harder to be like Christ.

Romans 14:11-13

For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.

As much hype that has been in the news lately about accountability, it is important to remember who we are accountable too. In the end we are only accountable to God for our actions. We should not judge others in their actions or motives, but strive to teach them the word of God. God will have his judgment in the end.

Message 32:6-7

Verily, verily, ye say ye love me. Where is your God that created thee? Know ye not that I know thee and know your whereabouts? I led many from the way of darkness and ye have contended selfishly to your woe, driving the good Spirit away; and doubt has entered the minds of some. Some that say they are not accountable for their folly; this is not of me, your living God. I speak these words of truth and they shall have their place among my children. Yea, trust me ye flocks, and I shall bear thee up at the last day. I am your God, I change not. I love thee and shall bless much, as your faith is. I leave my peace upon you.’ ”

We need to stay true to the word of God. We will be held accountable for all of our actions when we face judgment. There is no point in hiding in the false belief that it does not matter what we do on earth. We must repent of our sins follow Christ to have his salvation.

Luke 12:1-12

In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

God knows all. We should not try to hide from him. No matter what do or say it will come out into the open. We should not fear mankind. There is lots of stuff that others can do to us, but Christ will be with us the whole time. If we lose our life for Christ’s sake, then we have gaining it.

Matthew 7:1-5

Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

We never know all of the information about a person to be able to judge them. Only God can judge people. How can we stand and point to a person and condemn them when we have also sinned against God. Only the Lord know all and can judge all.

Romans 2:1-11

Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God.

God is the only one that can judge us. If we judge other people we are condemning ourselves. God will judge all people, it does not matter who you are or what you did in your life. He will treat all people the same and measure them against the same rules.

Malachi 3:1-4

Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years.

Malachi 4:5-6

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

I was talking to someone today about the message they were telling me that John was not the messenger and that the messenger already came. I read them these verses and one in Matthew but they still said that it was not going to happen. The verses very clearly say what the messenger will do when he comes and what time he will come. He will come before the great and dreadful day (judgment day) and he will restore the sons of Levi (priesthood). This is happing today. God is sending his messenger and he is doing the things that the Lord promised he would do. Will you listen to the warning?

2 Peter 3:10

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

We should prepare ourselves for Christ’s coming, for we know now when it will come. There are several popular theories out now about the time frame of the end of the earth. And that is just what they are, theories. Jesus said that only the Father in heaven knew the time of his second coming. Knowing this we need to prepare ourselves today. For we never know when the time will come and we meet Christ.

Malachi 4:5-6
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
The Lord promises us that he will send us Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord, also known as judgement day. This is the same messenger that is talked about in Chapter 3 of Malachi. As we will see next week, John the Baptist is filling this role.
2nd Nephi 33:14-15
And you that will not partake of the goodness of God, and respect the words of the Jews, and also my words, and the words which shall proceed forth out of the mouth of theLamb of God, behold, I bid you an everlasting farewell, for these words shall condemnyou at the last day. For what I seal on earth, shall be brought against you at the judgment bar; for thushath the Lord commanded me, and I must obey. Amen.
We have to follow God’s words. when judgment is passed down, we will be measured against the word of God, not what we wanted to believe. God’s words are uncompromisable. After our death it is to late for us to change our ways, so it is very important that study and learn Christ’s teaching now when we have the change since we never now what day will be our last.

Article 6

We believe in the literal second coming and millennial reign of Jesus Christ; in the Resurrection of the dead, and in Eternal Judgment; that men will be rewarded or punished according to the good or evil they may have done.

Jesus will come back to earth and reign for a 1000 years. There will be a day of judgment where each one of us is judged according to our actions on earth. Only our own actions will be considered in this judgment and not the actions of others. We can be reassured that if we follow the teaching of Christ that we will receive a good judgment and spend eternity with God. For further study read Revelations 20:4-15, Mathew 24, Message 62:6, 1st Thessalonians 4:16-17, Message 1:6-9, and Alma 40.

Article 4

We believe that men will be punished for their own sins and not for Adam’s transgression, and that as a consequence of the atonement of Christ “all little children are alive in Christ, and also all they that are without the law. For the power of redemption cometh on all they that have no law; wherefore, he that is not condemned, or he that is under no condemnation, cannot repent, and unto such, baptism availeth nothing.” (Moroni 8:25, 26)

Each person will be judged according his or her own works, not the works of others. Only each individual can affect our own judgment, not our family or people that come before or after us. This does not start at birth though. All little children are perfect in the eyes of the Lord. Once we learn about sin and have an understanding of right and wrong, then we can start to be judged for our actions. Through Christ we can have our sins washed way. For further study read Moroni 8:25, 26) (Moroni 8:17-26, Mosiah 26:29-32, Ether 4:12, Galatians 6:4-5, Message 12:4, and Message 44:5

Galatians 6:4-5

But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden.

Each one of us is judged on our own works. On judgement day, only our works and decisions will be evidence in our salvation trail.  We can not use be punished for others decisions and we can not us others decision as our defense.

Malachi 4:5-6

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”

God made a promise to his people that he would send a prophet to prepare the people before the great and dreadful day of the Lord. Since the great and dreadful day of the Lord is the judgment day, this prophecy must be talking about today and not when Christ was on earth the first time. We need to be looking for this now as the second coming of Christ is getting closer.

Helaman 9:21-22

“But Nephi saith unto them: O ye fools, ye uncircumcised of heart, ye blind, and ye stiffnecked people, do ye know how long the Lord your God will suffer you that ye shall go on this your ways of sin? O ye had ought to begin to howl and mourn, because of the great destruction at this time which doth await you, except ye shall repent.”

Just as Nephi warned his people about their sin, the people of the world today need to be aware of their sin.  Before the second coming of Christ, God will cleanse the earth of the wicked. For those of us still alive when that happens, it will not be enjoyable. Even though we know that this destruction is going to come, we need to repent to prevent our individual destruction, because we never know when our time might be up.

Ezekiel 39:7

“So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.”

As we watch what has happened to the dilution of the true Gospel of Christ over the 2000 years years since his birth, it is important that there will be a day of judgement for all mankind. Everyone one will have his judgement, some will see the coming of our Lord and some will not.  That is not important, what is important is that we do not know which group we will be in.  It is important for us to try to keep our eye on the prize and keep his his name holy, both in worlds and actions.

Matthew 19: 21-24

Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Mat 19:22  But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
Mat 19:23  Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 19:24  And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

“ Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.  But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.  Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. ”

We need to remember that the most important thing in our lives is not how much stuff that we have or how much money we make, but how we live our lives and love the Lord.  As we progress though life, let us not worry about keeping up with the needs or the world.  Everyone does not need a large house for a family of two.  It is very hard to not get caught up in rat race of the life today, but non of that stuff will make a difference when we wait our judgement.
